Ayikodans Rise! is a story of fight, of overcoming great odds through determination, spirit and precision to rise greater, bigger and stronger than before. Ayikodans are the premiere dance company from Haiti and are part of a movement towards a new contemporary Haitian aesthetic. While it is rooted in tradition inherited from its colonial past, it reflects modern Caribbean culture. The film documents choreographer Jeanguy Saintus’ dance ensemble as they rise from the devastation in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. It chronicles Ayikodans partnership with Miami's Arsht Center and their conviction that great change can happen by giving back to community as a result of building a brighter future through the belief that the arts are essential to the growth of Haiti and the world. Ayikodans Rise! is part of the Ayiti Trilogy of films which include Sove Nou narrated by Danny Glover and Nou Sove featuring actor Jimmy Jean Louis (of Heroes Reborn, Joy, Tears of The Sun) about people and organizations that are doing things to make a change for Haiti.
