KijiK came in to organize an extraordinary event bringing in Oscar, Emmy, Peabody and NAACP Award winning filmmaker Roger Ross Williams (@rogerrosswilliams) to screen his film Stamped From The Beginning introduced by KijiK founder Kevin Sharpley, have him receive the festival’s Impact Award and conduct an in depth Q&A about his work, life and career. From films, shows and projects that span Netflix, Apple TV, Hulu Amazon Prime and more, to work that’s premiered and won at major festivals such Sundance and Tribeca, he’s one of the most gifted storytellers working today. And the deep dive also showcased his work at the Academy For Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the organization that puts on the Academy Awards. Serving as the director of the documentary Governors of the organization, he was able to institute substantive changes that helped to dramatically shape the awards and organization outreach. The event was organized by KijiK Multimedia along with organizations Cinevisun and The Black Film and Media Group and moderated by KijiK founder Kevin Sharpley.
